Impulse Company Team: Ignite & The Pulse

Ignite

Ignite is Impulse's Competition Team. Ignite members have the opportunity to travel and learn from world renowned choreographers. Ignite dancers are divided into age groups and are required to take company rehearsal classes as well as their regular dance technique classes. Ignite dancers compete at several competitions and conventions throughout the year in group dances and solos/duets/trios.

The Pulse

The Pulse is Impulse's Community Team. Pulse members represent Impulse by performing at public events such as festivals, sporting events, and 1-2 competitions a year. Participation in The Pulse is a great learning opportunity for dancers who want to experience what it's like to be on a competition team, but might not be ready to compete at several competitions just yet.

Anyone wishing to audition MUST completely fill out and return their audition form and pay the $10 audition fee before being allowed to participate! Audition forms can be picked up at the office. Fees can be cash, check, or billed to your account. Each student must fill out a separate form and pay a separate fee! (Example: Siblings cannot be listed on the same form and each sibling must pay the $10 fee.)

What to Expect

During your audition, an instructor(s) will guide you through warm ups, basic technique, and choreography. The judges will be looking for participation, technique execution, performance ability, and most importantly: A GOOD ATTITUDE! The judges are not expecting perfection, but want to make sure that dancers have a solid foundation and understanding of the required skills necessary to be competitive. They also want to see dancers who work hard and can be a positive team member!

Parents

Auditions are CLOSED to the public. No filming, recording, or photographs of any kind are allowed. Parents and family must wait outside the studio and are not allowed to speak to, or contact the judges in any manner. If you have any concerns or emergencies, please see the front office staff immediately. Harassment of judges, instructors, or students will NOT be tolerated. Anyone interfering with auditions will be asked to leave.

Audition Results

Audition results will not be immediately available after the audition. It takes time for the judges to deliberate and add up scores. Everyone who auditions will receive an email with their audition results, and your next steps you. PLEASE DO NOT email or call the office to ask about results as we will not respond to these requests. Results will be sent via email.

Preparation & Tips

Auditions can be stressful if you are not prepared. We want everyone to have a positive experience and encourage those auditioning to do the following:

  • DRINK WATER! You're body needs to be hydrated in order to function properly. You need to start hydrating WELL before the audition date.
  • EAT BREAKFAST! You will be up and moving at your audition, make sure your body has fuel to get you through the day!
  • STRETCH! Part of being a great dancer is flexibility. Stretching every day can greatly help your flexibility and ability to execute dance skills.
  • PARTICIPATE IN CLASS! Make sure you are learning everything you can from your instructors! They are there to help you. You could even ask them if there is anything you can work on to get better.
  • PRACTICE! Is there something you're struggling with? Spend some extra time trying to get it down. Don't just focus on the skills you are already good at just because they are easy!
  • KEEP GOING! Even if you mess up, keep going! The judges aren't looking for perfection, they are looking for hard work and perseverance! Which means getting up even if you fall!
  • HAVE FUN! The whole reason we dance is because it expressed our emotions! Smile! Be energetic! Have fun at your audition. We want to see YOU and your passion for dance!
